The 2010/2011 Studio 180 Competition Season was a HUGE success! We enjoyed choreographing and working with each of our dedicated, talented competitive dancers. And we really look forward to even more opportunities for this year's teams.Competition Team is about commitment, making choices, and investing (both time and money). So, with all of the demands on our time and pocketbooks, why compete on a dance team?If you talk to the parents and dancers from this year's teams (and we recommend you do so if you are interested in competing), you will hear the real reasons, and they center around the friendships they formed. Our teams became another family within the studio family. Every dancer on every team:
- learned responsibility to their fellow team members,
- worked hard to perfect their dances,
- enjoyed performing more than one time for audiences,
- recognized and appreciated the vital support their parents gave them,
- felt enormous personal success,
- felt the support of their teammates,
- put aside personal goals for team goals,
- became a stronger dancer,
- developed rather a lot of panache and performance skill,
- had so much fun (some great stories to be told here), and
- grew as an individual.
Those are terrific takeaways. What each of us, dancers and teachers, enjoyed this year during competition classes and performances was the camaraderie of individuals bonding to create a whole greater than the individual. Our answer to 'why compete' is, while joining a team requires commitment, it also delivers such a wealth of benefits in return. So, we heartily encourage you to audition for this year's teams.
